Here's to a great year!
I'm giving the 2014 - 2015 school year a thumbs up!
My name is Dave Wissner, and I am excited for this school year. I am looking forward to getting to know parents and students alike and building great relationships. I love to teach, and I have loved working with your first grader.
This is my first year at McBain (which I am VERY excited about), so let me tell you a little about myself!
I am originally from the McBain area. I graduated from McBain High School in 2002 and went on to Central Michigan University that fall to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. After five and a half years, I graduated from CMU in December 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree. I majored in English/Language Arts and minored in Integrated Science.
After graduating, I moved to Louisiana to teach. I had been to Louisiana in previous years to help with clean-up efforts after Hurricane Katrina. I fell in love with the area and the people, and the Lord led me down there to teach and serve in a local church. I taught 5th grade ELA and 6th grade Social Studies for four years. I enjoyed my time there and learned a great deal about teaching and myself.
Then, in May of 2012, the Lord led my wife and I back to Michigan. We moved at the beginning of July, and a week and a half later I was hired for the 6th grade position at Renaissance Public School Academy in Mt. Pleasant. I took a 3rd grade position the following year. In 2014, I left Renaissance to pursue other opportunities and landed a 4th grade position at WMAAA in Spring Lake!
My wife, Jasey, and I have been married for five years. We met in McBain and married on July 2, 2010. Our son, Charlie, was born in November of 2012, and we also have Lily, who was born in October 2014. It's a fun time in our household!
Other than teaching, I am interested in reading, music, and serving at my church and in the local community.
